Yipee!! Saint Vincent's are now Primary - up to Year Six! Togetherness is the hallmark of a united church.

Let's Celebrate!

The Catholic ethos is integral in all that we do, in our teaching, learning and relationships with each other though mutual respect and appreciation that we are all different. Fr Jimmy Sheil celebrates Mass weekly, (alternating between Key Stage 1 and 2) with the children, staff, parents and members of the parish community.

In year three children are prepared to receive the Sacraments of Forgiveness and Holy Communion, joined by Catholic children from within the community.

Prayer is an important part of our day. We are fortunate to enjoy support from parishioners especially Mrs Eileen Breen, who leads the children in First Friday prayer.

The main feasts are celebrated through music, dance, and drama, speaking and listening.

Foundation years perform their rendition of The Christmas Story which would be their first opportunity to deliver to a larger audience.  This will leave you with the 'ah' factor!

The Nativity is performed by years 1 and 2, with year 2 taking the main roles, learning from an extensive script, projecting their voices with clarity.

Years 3 and 4 perform the Easter Story covering the Last Supper, The Trial, Crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Speaking and Listening being the main focus for our Literacy strands.  A truly moving experience!

Here at St.Vincent's we actively encourage our children and staff to realise their individual potential. The philosophy which permeates the school is to create opportunities for all to demonstrate their God given talents. We celebrate all achievements in an assembly at the end of each half term. Birthdays are celebrated weekly.
Bringing the Curriculum Alive!

Workshop or sweatshop!!
Our parents/governors had great fun working with class 4 children through the strands of numeracy. They became the TEACHERS! Mrs Pavlovic asked them what they thought about the experience. Class 4 were very impressed with themselves, 'teaching our parents was awesome, we knew more about numeracy than they did!' (Unless of course they wanted us to believe that!!) The children demonstrated how to use the interactive whiteboards to support and extend their learning across the numeracy spectrum, from Reception through to year 6. Mrs Wright and Mrs Pavlovic were there to lend a hand if needed. (Not necessary as it happens!) WATCH OUT for the next workshop. The children were a little disappointed at the turn out for the Literacy/ICT evening. We hope to hold another in the summer term.

The children enjoy the opportunity and experience once a term to perform in class assemblies for an audience. Through drama, clearer understanding of scripture can be developed and extended at the children's own level. This is an excellent opportunity to promote the children's speaking and listening skills, with the added impact of the fun factor!! Opportunities are also open for ICT, with the use of powerful Power Points to reflect, inspire and enthuse both the children and the audiences they are intended for. Cross curricular links enable every child to achieve and demonstrate their God given talents.

The children are also given opportunities to extend and challenge their skills through extra-curricular activities such as art, basketball, dance and drama, ICT and numeracy clubs. You can often see Mrs Cotton playing her recorder with a group of children during lunchtimes

Our Award System

The merit system was introduced to recognise and reward behaviour, effort and achievement across all areas. On completion of each merit card a certificate is awarded. At the end of the year some special awards are presented.

The Fr John Glen Memorial Shield for effort and achievement is presented to a year six  leaver. Fr John was the Diocesan Education Advisor who sadly died in 1996 in a tragic fire.
The former Head teacher,  Mrs Rosemarie Duke donated a cup for excellent manners and behaviour, which is  presented to a year 4.
The Gibson family who had five children progress through our school donated a special cup to be presented to a Key Stage 1 child for special effort and progress.
We also celebrate achievement in the arts and drama with a special shield awarded to a child who has demonstrated interest and flair throughout their time in the school, presented by the Wright family.
